Daily Reflection – 9/3/19

Sacred Scripture

Jesus then went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee. He taught them on the sabbath, and they were astonished at his teaching because he spoke with authority. In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out in a loud voice, “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm. They were all amazed and said to one another, “What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.( Luke 4:31-37)

Reflection

God’s living Word is truth and life and it has power to set us free from every sin and oppression and bring us healing of body, mind, and spirit. If the demons, the fallen angels, were able to recognize the power and authority of Jesus, the Son of God, how much more should we recognize and believe in the power and authority of the Gospel – the good news of Jesus Christ, and entrust our lives to the Lord Jesus?

Each one of us has our own “unclean spirits.” I doubt that they are “demons” like the one in this story. However, our “demons” often control us much more than we would like! What are your “unclean spirits,” your “demons?” I assume all of us want to be healed. Do we trust that Jesus hears our plea? Do we believe that Jesus can and will heal us? Our healing may not be an immediate “miracle” as this man’s was. Rather our healing may be a gradual healing as we continue to bring out the demons inside of us.

Now take a moment and ask yourself: What are the unclean spirits that possess you?  How do these unclean spirits affect your life and the people in your life?  Do you long to be freed from these unclean spirits or have they become an integral part of your life?  And perhaps more importantly, have you asked Jesus to exorcise the unclean spirits that may slowly be destroying your happiness and perhaps your life?

Today (and every day) come to Jesus and beg Him to rid you of any unclean spirit that is plaguing you or perhaps destroying your life. You may not receive an immediate miracle; however, you may begin to notice a difference in your life, in your emotions and in the quality of your trust in Jesus.  Jesus is with you!  Open your heart and trust Him!  He will not fail you!

Prayer of The Day

Thank You Jesus, for your love, mercy and compassion. You have blessed us to be sharers of your authority and conviction, to be light in a world clouded by darkness. Strengthen me to be always close to you and be a child of light. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.

Daily Note

The Lord Jesus speaks his life-giving Word to us each and every day so that we may walk in the freedom of his love and truth. If we approach the Word of God with meekness and humility, and with an eagerness to do everything the Lord desires, we are in a much better position to learn what God wants to teach us through his word. Are you ready to follow the Lord Jesus and to conform your life according to His word?

  1. Thank-you for this excellent post.
Jesus always keeps his promises. He said that Capernaum would become just a pile of stones, and sure enough, it is. We witnessed this when we were there a few years ago.
